Karin's Story
There are very few things we can control in life- but one thing we can control is how we nourish ourselves.
After being diagnosed with not 1 but 2 Autoimmune diseases - I felt my life slipping out of control. I was told by Doctors that I would never lead an “optimal” life, I would be dependant on medications and I had to adhere to the strictest of diets in order to maintain balance.
For me - life without enjoying the pleasures of food was not worth living - so I set out on a journey of healing - and my life long love affair with food took on a whole new dimension.
Through Functional Medicine I realized that food can be a healer, more than just nourishing our bodies, feeding our minds and soothing our souls.

My journey into nutrition started when I was diagnosed at the age of 18 with my first autoimmune disease (Hashimoto’s thyroid disease). Not seeing much improvement in my symptoms or antibody levels following the conventional medicine approach, I started to learn about the healing power of everyday food. I made small, micro changes in my diet and immediately saw an improvement in my symptoms. That was then I enrolled myself to university and studied Medical Nutrition (whitest working as a banker).
Nutrition had really helped me at that point in my life and I decided to quit the corporate world and devote myself to helping others heal through food. However, following the birth of my second child, I was diagnosed with my second autoimmune disease (Celiac Disease). It was then that I discovered that nutrition alone was not going to help me and I needed to dig deeper and find the root causes of my autoimmunity.
I embarked on my second nutrition degree and studied functional medicine with an emphasis on culinary nutrition. Once I had addressed my own root causes (which took years by the way) and felt healthy again I realized that nutrition is just part of the puzzle. although a big part and often the part that we start off with.
My forte is simple, practical and ongoing solutions to improve health (“progress not perfection” is my mantra). I works with my patients in a down to earth but structured way empowering them to manage their own health and balance their lifestyles. Along with individual consultations (which can be done online or in person), I have created a wonderful range of health/culinary workshops, like her famous – “No Guts No Glory”, fermentation workshop, focusing on some of the most powerful and effective natural ways to promote health.
“The most common misconceptions about diet and nutrition is that the same diet works for everyone and that the same diet works all the time (see the “fad diets”). As a nutritionist, my job is to address these misconceptions.”
